Saudi Women dare to drive

26 Oct

Hello Everyone!

Thank you all for the wonderful comments about my Granny. We are having a spectacular time together, having heard so much about each other. She cleverly concocted some story about how she’s here to spend quality time carving pumpkins with grandchildren, but she and I know better. She came solely to meet me. I am so flattered.¬† (We’ll try to ¬†make time for her to visit with the others.)

Meanwhile, today Oct. 26 is a BIG day in Saudi Arabia where women have campaigned to get behind the wheel and drive. Followers of SK know that currently women risk arrest and even “lashings” if they are caught driving. Campaigns have organized over the years to promote the benefit of women driving. No more having to wait for a male to drive you someplace, no dealing with appointments trying to get a driver, and just overall independence.

Previous attempts fizzled out as protestors were arrested, and such.

A group of women organized an online campaign to rescind the ban – the only place on earth where women are banned from driving. They garnered more than 16,000 signatures. They have also received support from media around the world.

My pub has pasted a Youtube clip of one of four woman who reportedly drove today. The quality of the video looks as though my publicist may have taken it. For that matter, it looks as though my pub may have been driving, especially the scene where they come a little too close to a tree branch. Actually, we can’t quite tell who is driving. Hmmmmm.

Enjoy and please add your support to giving women equal rights, xo, LMA
